1. SPECIAL SPELLS:

There are two spells that are not written in any of the Sorcerers Spell Books, but they are considered grave errors either by Bane or Vardion. They are, in fact, almost useless (see CLONES LAB – A RESEARCH ON RESURRECTION section for something good) and you are not able to cast it during Sponsor Test (but you should be – see the sponsor coments bellow).

Although the third spell uses a Pentagram, it is a Thaumaturgic spell. It’s only mentioned briefly in the Ethereal Travel Spellbook.

  1. Summon Daemon for Idiots
  2. ‘Daemon bone, hard to aquire, and harder still to use. This, of course, is the reagent required to make spells dealing with the daemonic servants of Pyros. If you are not wary with its use, it will be your undoing.’

‘Never use more Daemon Bone than your spell calls for.’

‘Fool! Had I not been here, you could have killed yourself, and that would have displeased the Master.’

Note: The Focus and some of the Candles will be consumed during the ritual.

  3. Conflagration for Idiots
  4. ‘Brimstone is a volatile substance, and confers this to Sorcerous enchantment in the form of raw power. Be careful in your use of this reagent.’

‘Never use more Brimstone than your spell calls for.’

‘Now, continue your test. I tire of your bumbling.’

  5. Ethereal Travel (extracted from Jeff Abramson’s FAQ/Walkthrough)
  6. Perivolcan Ze: Any Blackrock fragment

    Perivolcan Pa: Any Blackrock fragment

Mesostel Ze : Any Blackrock fragment

Mesostel Pa : Any Blackrock fragment

    Aphelion : Any Blackrock fragment

2. RARITIES HIDDEN FROM PAGANS’ SIGHT:

  1. Key for the chest in the docks map:
  2. Go to the northeastern most possible point of the map. You should see a human remains with a fake firegem. now, look to the west (arrow pointing to the upper-left side of the screen)... you should see a tree. Search for a jewelry box on the ground hidden just behind a little tree next to a mushroom. Done! Now go for the chest! Nothing really worthy to get, though. Beware of the trap. See Section EASILY DODGE CHEST TRAPS for techniques to avoid traps on chests.

Note: If you don't know the directions, North is to the entrance of the city. If you are still lost, put yourself on the Avatar position and try to guess where is east, west and south (as if you were using a compass). This is sort of an Isometric perspective.

  3. Daemon Talisman
  4. On Daemon's Crag Library, after you can unlock its door, keep hitting the ground behind the door to your right (leave the door opened or you'll have problems opening it afterwards, in case of the Talisman may be blocking the way). Someday the talisman will appear. Alternatively, you can Hackmove the door through cheating and then you’ll be able to see its correct location.

  5. Hidden Chest with Magical Arm Guards
  6. It’s in the Monastery of Theurgists and it’s easy to notice it either because you can’t walk near the wall under the balcony (something invisible is blocking your way) or because the architectonic harmony and symmetry makes you feel that there is something missing there. Either way, use a Restore to sight scroll (not recommended) or cast a Reveal Spell to dispel the chest magic.

  7. Hidden Chest with Magical Armor

  8. It’s in the Upper Catacombs, near the (fake) Birthplace of Moriens and the Zealan Shrine. Defeat the 3 Ghouls that rise from the ground and either cast a Reveal Spell or use a Restore to Sight Scroll (that you can find with some bones). The invisible chest shall appear before the plaque: ‘Rest in Peace’.

  9. Fist Focus
  10. Although it may be good to get the Intervention spell a lot earlier, I don't think it's a good idea to do this. It may mess the storyline (Stellos will think you have already made your foci and may not give you the key to the door beneath the monastery). Nonetheless, you can carry the unenchanted focus without problem. To find the fist, enter West Tenebrae through Central Tenebrae. Go straight forward until you meet a guard in front of the Tavern. Notice that there is an area of the ground that is visually covered by the wall of the Tavern. Keep hitting that area, until you see the Fist appear. Alternatively, you can Hackmove the wall using the cheat and then you’ll be able to see its correct location. After this you can either continue the game normally and place the Fist over the Altar of focus on Argentrock Island when the time is right, or you can avail of the power of Stratos now. To do this, you may either use Mordea's Altar of Focus behind her bed or you can use the one near the first Dead Necromancer. To fix the triggered Flag mentioned above, you need to cheat, setting the flag value ‘hasOwnFoci’ to 0 (zero). Press F9, click on View/Edit and then on Usecode Flags and type the appropriate flag (it’s CASE SENSITIVE). Note that you must have enabled change Usecode Flags earlier (see section MODIFYING FLAGS near the end of this guide for help).

  11. Chunks of Silver Ore
  12. Thanks to Dino, two chunks of Silver Ore were found on West Tenebrae. He also explained that he found them by following the clues left by Prescient Dragon who didn’t remember their correct location anymore (but he knew they were somewhere on Tenebrae). For the correct location, visit Dino’s Ultima Page.

To make myself a little bit useful here, I also found a Chunk of Silver Ore on West Tenebrae. To be more precise, it’s exactly behind Korick’s bed, but outside of the Smithy (not his house!). Since it’s behind the wall, you’ll need to either punch or kick incessantly the area to make the ore ‘jump’ to a visible place or hackmove the wall by cheating for an easier job.

3. INFINITE RARITIES, WARDROBES/DRAWERS/DESKS BUG

Never store your belongings inside wardrobes or drawers or desks (or any other imobile container if I forgot any) as you would inside bags, backpacks or chests. If you do, when you return later, you will NOT find your things, but, instead, you will find the original content of the wardrobe/drawer/desk (usually junk). Don't be sad, however! You can use this flaw for your own benefit! Notice that some of these containers have some good things inside them. For example:

Leave the current map areas and return. The treasures will be there again. Now you will only steal Rhian's gems in the name of the ancient, fine and unvirtuous art of stealing.

4. DIFFICULT TO HIT THE TARGET?

If you are having trouble with inaccuracy when casting targeted Spells, or your Daemons often attack you instead of your opponents, or you think the conversation text disappears too fast even at ‘0’ speed, your problems have come to an end! When you need to freeze screen, simply press the ‘PAUSE’ Key and (double) click on you target. To resume the game just press any key. There are two problems, however. Sometimes even the mouse pointer freezes and it lacks precision (you’ll possibly have to foresee to where your target is moving).

5. RELOADING SCENARIOS OR MAPS

After your kill an ordinary guard and drop his contents on the ground, for example; after you leave the screen (not the area map) for some distance and return again, you’ll notice that the corpse and the items are no longer there. Instead, you’ll see another guard there standing still. That happened because you Reloaded the Scenario (I’ll be using this term from now on) and everything that is not a true NPC or a permanent item (most of the items you find with corpses are temporary) will be erased from the map after the Scenario is Reloaded.

Reloading a Map is very similar to a Scenario, but, instead, you must leave the current Map area and return to it again just after. Notice that some places (usually in the vicinity of each other) are gathered into a single Map, for example: Mythran’s abode, the Bone Crusher’s cave, outside Mythran’s abode and the cave to the Plateau were included into the same Plateau Map.

6. EASILY DODGE CHEST TRAPS

To successfully dodge an explosion trap, you may follow 3 plans:

  1. Wasting a rare Scroll of Trap Destruction:
  2. Not recommended at all!

  3. Using a container:
  4. Recommended. Open, for example, a barrel container. Put the trapped chest inside of the barrel, then walk away from the barrel just enough to make sure you're safe of a possible explosion. With the barrel window openned, double-click the chest inside the barrel and Bingo! You can also use backpacks, wardrobes, other chests and even dead bodies, id est, anything that has enough space for the trapped chest. You can also use any item you wish from afar (even if the container is located at the other side of a wall) using this technique.

  5. Opening it from a safe distance:
  6. Recommended. Stand near the chest and pick up it. Before dropping it, make sure the mouse cursor is at the southeastern most point of the screen (id est, arrow pointing down) and WITH the format of the BLUE POINTER (not cross hair nor red cross). This will let the Avatar drop the chest under his reach to open it....guess what? Tadaaa! You have managed to successfully avoid the trap. This proves that a secret has not to be complicated in order to effectively help you during gameplay.

7. DAGGERS AND UNLIMITED REAGENTS

You normally use Daggers as a weapon. However, if you double-click on it, a target will appear. Originally, I thought that it was probably meant to be thrown (to hit enemies from afar), also for de-venoming Kiths or even as a tool for stealth murdering and body dissecation. However, I found a (useless) purpose for it. Use (double-click) the Dagger on Armors or weapons in your status screen (paperdoll) and they will fade from sight. Their status boosts will also disappear (except for their weight – ugh!), but you cannot wear other armors/weapons over them (definetly a non-profitable bug!). To make them appear again, click-and-hold the part of the body where the weapon/armor was supposed to be.

There is actually another usefulness I found for any cross hair target. It will be discussed in the UNFREEZING THE AVATAR section.

Recently, I’ve found a real use for this tool. Use Daggers on tree branches and a pile of Wood (Necromantic reagent) shall fall from it. You can use this multiple times. Also, you can use it on the dry twigs of a tree and a pile of Dead Man’s Elbow shall fall from it (haven’t found an utility for this reagent, though).

8. MISSILE WEAPON OF SHORT RANGE

Contrary to what many people says, Pagan actually has its unique set of missile weapons (besides the useless Death Disks). They are the powerful DARTS! Well, I know I’m exaggerating a little bit too much, but you can, in fact, attack monsters or people using those darts.

However, it’s not really the darts that do the damage, but it’s the Avatar’s hand that moves like it was supposed to attack someone, when he throws the dart, so the computer and Beren will think that you wanted to hurt someone. To successfully attack someone with ‘Darts’, don’t aim at him/her, but instead, try to shoot somewhere else.

The only finality I can find for this bug is described in the section OUCH! RAISE YOUR HAND WHOEVER HIT ME!. Hint: try to attack someone with the darts when you are equiped with the Flame Sting or the Slayer for a surprise.

9. THERE’S A HOLE IN YOUR FIRE SHIELD!

Very easy to break through a Fire Shield spell. If you are under a roof (exceptions: Vardion’s and Bane’s houses, big houses), you’ll pass through it with no problem. Doing this outdoors, takes no more effort than in the previous case. Just enter battle-mode and walk backwards in the direction of the circle of fire. Voila!

10. PAGAN’S OPEN DOOR

If you don’t like when some people lock their doors when they are out of their houses, you can either summon a Golem to forcibly open a door or you can wait until it’s open to place ANY item that blocks its movement, preventing it from closing. These methods will grant you access to any house in Tenebrae (and many others, including the Obsidian Fortress).

Also, if you hate these portals that keep closing as you approach them (the ones similar to the portals that you open via levers or switches), you can keep them open everytime by placing items over them (try to walk over the portal near the entrance of the River of Lava and call the Aerial Servant to pull the lever; you can also use the switch on the wall).
